Many people seem to have a problem with customers that pay with PayPal not returning to their website. When their customers do this, the store owner receives payment, but does not receive the order information.
A simple solution to this -- which some people may not like, but it should work fine -- is to simply put a message at the payment selection page advising the customer to make sure they return from the PayPal site to this site to complete their order.
This should eliminate MOST of the PayPal order problems that result from the customer not returning to the site. I have seen this implemented on a site that was for a pretty big, multi-national company. I didn't think it was unprofessional at all. That was even before I knew about this problem, or osCommerce, for that matter.
I cannot say how effective this will be, because our webstore is still not operational. It is still in the testing stages. We hope to make it live later today or tomorrow if all goes well. So, since we don't have actual experience with this, I can't say how well this will work in reality. It works fine in testing.

This is a return to the original author's intent, which I actually find useful for my site. It places a message on your checkout payment page instructing customers to please return to your site to complete purchase... Updated for rc2a and compatible with PayPal Website Payments Standard and PayPal IPN v1.4

Paypal tiene un problema que cuando el cliente no da clic al boton de regresar al sitio, se recibe el pago pero no se sabe lo que el cliente compro. con esta solucion cuando da clic al boton confirmar y te envia al sitio de paypal te manda un correo con los datos del producto asi te previene de una posible compra y si la hace y cierra la pagina tu ya tienes lo que compro. Esta contribucion no es mia, solo traduje la parte en espaņol

About Auto Return
Auto Return shortens the checkout flow and immediately brings your buyers back to your website upon payment completion. To set up Auto Return, you need to turn it on and enter the return URL that will be used to redirect your buyers back to your site.
Note: If you have turned on Auto Return and have chosen to turn on PayPal Account Optional for new users, a new user will not be automatically directed back to your website, but will be given the option to return.
I've made what you said, but it does not (always) work.
The reason for is simple:
If you switch Auto Return=on AND PayPal Account Optional=on , PayPal does NOT return if the paying customer is a new one for PayPal - this means he or she is or has not registered himself or herself within PayPal.
It is obvious that in this case PayPal wants to show such customers a PayPal window telling them about how good it is to become a PayPal member instead of returning to the calling shop without using this advertisment.
You can find a description of this behaviour in the help text attached to the Auto Return Radio Button:
"Note: If you have turned on Auto Return and have chosen to turn on PayPal Account Optional for new users, a new user will not be automatically directed back to your website, but will be given the option to return."

Not a file, but a real solution to this problem. At your Paypal-profile settings, you can set the option "Auto Return".
With this option, customers get redirected automatically to your site after the payment, instead of first clicking "continue" and then returning. No more payments without order confirmations!
Log in at your Paypal account and go to:
"Profile (under My Account)", then choose
"Website Payment Preferences".
Set "auto return" to ON, and use the following Return URL:
http://yourdomain/catalog/checkout_process.php
